Term 3 Newsletter

28th July, 2017

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to Term 3!

Learning and fun was plentiful in term 2, especially with our Science concept.  All the children enjoyed exploring different textures, smells and other reactions during the different experiments we did.

This term will be an exciting one!  Our new concept is ‘Taonga Aotearoa’, which means treasure New Zealand. We will be learning that:
-       We are all kaitiaki (caregivers) of the environment
-       Our actions affect the environment around us
We will be exploring how we can look after our school and community and how to ensure all life forms need to be kept safe; humans, animals and plants.  As part of this learning, we will be going on a class trip to Kelly Tarlton’s Sealife Aquarium at the end of the term.  There will be more information coming out in the communication books over the coming weeks.

GymCity
We have been lucky enough to get a session at Gymcity each Monday from the 14th of August until the end of term.  Please send the signed permission and the $5 back to school.  Let Lara know if you need another copy of the permission slip and information letter.

Stardome Trip
On the 11th of August, Le Va and Te Puna Bilingual Unit have been invited to attend a session at the Stardome to learn about Matariki.  The children all enjoyed the Matariki celebrations in term 2 so I am sure they will love the new learning and activities that the Stardome will provide.

Thank you for ensuring your children are at school on time, having time to organise their bags and play before the bell rings helps them to settle into the school day and ensures our programme can start on time, without disruption.

If you would like more information about your child, their learning, or have any information that needs to be shared, please feel free to come in to school between 8 and 8.50 each morning or email Lara at lshackleton@papatoetoe-south.school.nz

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Kind Regards,

Lara Shackleton
